My Michael Kors Handbag Deal

Posted: May 5th, 2016

As most of you know, one of my many goals in life is to save as much money as I can for the future. Each week I save money buying groceries and purchasing much needed items on sale for my family. But...Sometimes it feels good to splurge and find a little something for myself.

My savings is built up pretty well, so I could go and purchase something full price if I really wanted to..but getting a Fabulous Deal is just who I am now. I can't shop any other way!

The last few months I have wanted a new handbag. One that is slightly more expensive, so if I ever plan to resell it, I will get more back in return. I most likely won't sell it, I have this thing for falling head over heals for a designer bag! I have a few in my closet that are over 20 years old! I guess those would be considered vintage now, right??

Since most designer handbags don't often go on sale, I knew I had to come up with a plan to keep my out of pocket as low as possible! That's when I started I decided to build my Plenti Points. Plenti Points is a reward program for Rite Aid, Macy's and a few other businesses. At Rite Aid, you accumulate points when you buy certain deals each week.

So for the past few months I have purchased deals at Rite Aid on products my family uses. Slowly my points accumulated and as of today they reached $117. I usually shop online, since I can get cash back from Ebates Coupons and Cash Back but I decided to stop into my local Macy's to see if the bag I was dreaming about would be a perfect fit. I had no plans to purchase the bag, since the Macy's website said the color I wanted wasn't available in my area.

I walked into the handbag department, as I have the months prior, gazing at the handbags like a kid in a toy store! My mind thinking look at the choices but trying to stay focused on finding the bag I wanted, but in a different color so I could just check the size.

But...there it was...the Michael Kors Hamilton East West Satchel in Black..the handbag I've been dreaming about...on a random hook all by itself! I couldn't believe it! I was able to actually look in the mirror with the handbag I have loved the last few months.'s silly I know, but buying new designer handbag is such a treat for me!

As I was "Falling in Love", I was telling the cashier about how I've been saving for this handbag. She then clued me in, that the 20% off deal today was only when you used your Macy's Credit Card. Ugh! I closed my Macy's Credit Card years ago, when we became debt free! Then she said, if I decided to open one up today I would receive an additional 20% the bag would be 40% off plus my Plenti Points!

I looked in the mirror again, in love...knowing I was headed out of town to a family event in New York City tomorrow...I gave in and said "I'm getting it!"

Here's my Deal:

Michael Kors Hamilton East West Satchel - Retail $298, rang up on sale for $238.40.

Cashier used 20% off Coupon - Total dropped to $190.72

Used my $117.45 in Plenti Points

Tax - $16.69

Charged $89.96 to my newly opened Macy's Credit Card. The cashier said the extra 20% off for opening a Macy's Card would show up on my bill. But I'm wondering if the extra 20% off came off already, since the bag rang up at 20% off price.

Guess I will just have to see when my bill comes in the mail. I will also pay off the card and close the account when it comes.

I'm pretty excited though, I just paid under $90 for a $298 handbag! Sweet!

Yes...for those who know me, I did the "Happy Dance" at checkout! It's a must when I get a Fabulous Deal!! :)
